Ingredients
Scale
For the Casserole Base:
- 2 cups cooked and shredded chicken
- 1 can cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 and 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare your crockpot by thoroughly spraying the inside with nonstick spray. This crucial step ensures easy cleanup and prevents sticking.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Whisk these ingredients until they form a smooth, creamy mixture.
- Stir the shredded chicken into the creamy mixture. Add 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese and mix until everything is well combined and evenly coated.
- Create the first layer of your casserole by spreading half of the frozen tater tots across the bottom of the crockpot. Arrange them in a single, even layer to ensure consistent cooking.
- Carefully spoon the chicken and cheese mixture over the first layer of tater tots. Spread it evenly to cover the entire bottom layer, creating a delicious middle section.
- Top the chicken layer with the remaining frozen tater tots. Arrange them carefully to create a crispy top layer that will become golden and crunchy during cooking.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top of the tater tots. This will create a melted, cheesy crust that's absolutely irresistible.
- Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or on high for 2 to 3 hours. Look for the tater tots to be heated through and the cheese to be melted and bubbly.
