Ingredients
Scale
For the Special Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons French dressing
- 4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
- 1 tablespoon finely minced white onion
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
For the Burger:
- 1 pound ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 sesame seed hamburger buns
- Additional bottom buns for middle layer
- 1 cup chopped iceberg lettuce
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- Pickle slices
Instructions
- Prepare the special sauce first. In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet pickle relish, minced onion, vinegar, sugar, and salt. Whisk thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Cover the special sauce and refrigerate while you prepare the remaining ingredients. This resting time allows the flavors to blend beautifully.
- Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions. Carefully form each portion into thin patties, making them slightly larger than the buns. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
- Preheat a griddle or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on four of the patties. Allow the cheese to melt completely.
- Lightly toast all the hamburger buns, including the extra bottom buns for the middle layer. This adds a delightful crunch and prevents sogginess.
