Homemade Big Mac with Special Sauce

Homemade Big Mac with Special Sauce

This recipe brings the iconic burger from the golden arches right to your home kitchen, with total control over ingredients and flavor.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Special Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons French dressing
  • 4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced white onion
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

For the Burger:

  • 1 pound ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 sesame seed hamburger buns
  • Additional bottom buns for middle layer
  • 1 cup chopped iceberg lettuce
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • Pickle slices

Instructions

  1. Prepare the special sauce first. In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet pickle relish, minced onion, vinegar, sugar, and salt. Whisk thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  2. Cover the special sauce and refrigerate while you prepare the remaining ingredients. This resting time allows the flavors to blend beautifully.
  3. Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions. Carefully form each portion into thin patties, making them slightly larger than the buns. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Preheat a griddle or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  5. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on four of the patties. Allow the cheese to melt completely.
  6. Lightly toast all the hamburger buns, including the extra bottom buns for the middle layer. This adds a delightful crunch and prevents sogginess.
