Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (18.5 oz) German chocolate cake mix
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan by greasing it thoroughly or lining it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, evaporated milk, and melted butter. Mix until the dough comes together, creating a thick, rich batter.
- Carefully press half of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan. This will create a solid, delicious base for your bars.
- Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 8 minutes. This initial baking helps create a sturdy foundation for the remaining layers.
- Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the baked layer with chopped pecans and chocolate chips. The warm base will help the toppings adhere beautifully.
- Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the pecan and chocolate chip layer. Sprinkle the salt over the caramel to enhance the overall flavor profile.
- Take the remaining dough and drop it in small clumps over the caramel layer. Try to cover as much of the caramel as possible, creating a rustic, delicious top layer.
- Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 18-20 minutes. Look for firm edges and a set top as indicators of doneness.
